Single Ply

The single layer generation of membranes were introduced some 30 years ago. Since then these have evolved into an extremely wide range of chemical compositions. The nature of the single ply membrane ensures satisfactory physical properties over a wide working temperature range

Generic types of membrane
Polymers suitable for roofing applications are usefully classified according to
the extent of cross-linking between the polymer chains because this
determines many of their characteristics and the method of forming seams. These range from thermoplastics to elastomers, with some materials displaying features of both

Thermoplastic:
Polyvinylchloride - PVC-p,
Chlorosulphonated Polyethylene – CSM,
Chlorinated Polyethylene - CPE,
Flexible Polyolefin – FPO,
Thermoplastic Polyolefin – TPE,
Vinyl ethylene terpolymer - VET

Elastomeric:
Polyisobutylene - PIB
Ethylene propylene diene monomer - EPDM

The main applications used to ensure sustained reliability and value for the roofing structures are:

Loose laid ballasted systems
These systems utilise ballast or pavers to hold down the membrane. They are normally used on load bearing structures, although adaptations have been made for metal deck roofs. The membrane is largely protected from weather, and stresses produced by structural and thermal movement.

Mechanically fastened systems
Mechanically fastened exposed membrane systems are an adoption of the loose laid principle, allowing maximum free movement of the membrane. Point attachment to the roof is made with screw and plate fasteners which resist wind

Fully Adhered

A Fully Bonded build-up where the membrane is glued to the substance.

Our Systems

Our preference to date is to use the following products representing the Thermoplastic range of single ply waterproofing.

Xenith Single Ply Membrane; A PVC material which is from Ruberoid Building Products
Sintofoil; A TPO material from Moy Materials

Full design support including field surveys are provided by ourselves
and others.
